Sports injury assessment · Bexley

That injury that keeps coming back?

The hamstring that tightens up again every few weeks. The shoulder that flares whenever the volume goes up. If you have been training around the same problem for months, it is worth having it properly assessed.

Calls and texts reach the chiropractor, not a call centre. Texts are usually answered the same day, even between patients.

$140
Initial sports injury assessment

One appointment. Here is what it covers.

  • Your history, your training and how the injury behaves
  • Assessment of the area and other regions that may be relevant
  • A plain language explanation of what we find
  • Treatment on the day where appropriate
  • Exercise and practical advice where relevant

Follow-up appointments $90. No packages, no lock-in plans, no paying upfront for future care.

The pattern we see most often

Not a brand new injury from last weekend. Something that has been going on for a while, settles down, then turns up again.

  • A hamstring that tightens or strains again every time you get back to sprinting or hard rolling.
  • A shoulder that becomes painful whenever pressing, overhead or grappling volume goes up.
  • A knee that gets sore after certain sessions, quietens down, then comes back.
  • An ankle that has never felt quite right since the original sprain.
  • A lower back that flares up every time training volume increases.
  • Quietly changing how you train, or avoiding certain movements, because something hurts.
  • Rest, massage and stretching help for a while, then the symptoms return.

Symptoms that keep returning are worth assessing properly rather than working around indefinitely. That does not mean there is always a single hidden cause waiting to be found. It means the problem is worth looking at in context, including your training, your previous injuries and how you are currently loading the area.

Who comes in

The clinic has looked after these training communities for years, alongside plenty of people who simply train at the gym or play on the weekend.

BJJ Boxing CrossFit HYROX Soccer Rugby union Rugby league Running Gym training Bodybuilding Recreational sport

You do not need to be competing at any particular level. Most people seen here are training around work and family, and just want to keep doing it without something flaring up every few weeks.

What happens at the first appointment

No surprises and no pressure. You will know what we found and what we suggest before you leave.

We listen first

What you do, how long this has been going on, what sets it off, what you have already tried, and what you are training for. Not a two minute intake form.

Assessment

We assess the area that is bothering you, along with other regions and movements that may be relevant to it. Orthopaedic, neurological and movement testing is used where appropriate.

Explanation in plain language

What we found, what we think is reasonable to do about it, and roughly how many appointments that usually involves. If we are not sure about something, we will say so.

Treatment where appropriate

Hands-on treatment usually starts the same day where it is appropriate. What is used depends on your presentation rather than a set routine.

Exercise and practical advice

Exercise designed around your presentation and activity level, with consideration of your training goals and return to activity. Plus straight advice on what to modify and what is reasonable to keep doing in the meantime.

If chiropractic is not the right approach, we will tell you

Not every injury is a chiropractic problem. If what we find suggests imaging, a GP review or a different practitioner would be more appropriate, we will say so at the first appointment and point you in the right direction.

We also will not book appointments you do not need. When things are going well, we say so. There are no treatment packages here and nothing is sold upfront.

Your chiropractor

Dr Mouhamed Saab (Chiropractor) · B.ChiroSc, M.Chiro

Dr Saab (Chiropractor) trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and holds a black belt, and worked in the fitness industry before university. That background is useful here, because training loads, session structure and what it actually takes to get back to full training are familiar rather than theoretical.

The clinic opened in Bexley in 2012 and has looked after the local BJJ, boxing, CrossFit, Hyrox, soccer and rugby communities ever since, along with gym-goers, runners, tradespeople and plenty of people who just want to move well. You see the same practitioner from the first appointment through to the last.

Questions people ask

Do I have to stop training?

Not necessarily. It depends on what the assessment finds. Most people get practical advice on what to modify and what is reasonable to keep doing, rather than being told to stop everything.

I have already tried rest, massage and stretching. Is an assessment worth it?

It can be. A fresh assessment is often useful for something that keeps returning, particularly if the area has not been looked at alongside your training and the other regions that may be relevant to it. Bring any scans or reports you have.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly for private appointments. A GP referral and care plan is only needed if you are coming through Medicare CDM (EPC). Workers compensation and CTP claims are also accepted.

What does it cost?

The initial sports injury assessment is $140 and covers history, assessment, an explanation of what we find, treatment where appropriate and exercise advice where relevant. Follow-up appointments are $90. There are no packages or lock-in plans.

Can I claim through my private health fund?

Yes. Health fund rebates are claimed on the spot via Tyro, so you only pay the gap on the day.

Do you only see competitive athletes?

No. Most people seen here are training around work and family. You do not need to be competing at any particular level.

Worth getting it looked at properly

Call or text and you will reach the chiropractor directly. New patients are welcome.
